BURWOOD TENNIS CLUB History

Burwood Tennis Club in 2007 celebrates 100 years of its proud history. Burwood is a busy and dynamic tennis Club boasting a flourishing coaching programme and opportunities for players of all levels to compete in both intra and inter club competitions.

In August 2007 Burwood completed the re-development of its courts and club-house. The Club now has 5 magnificent drought-proof state of the art "Euroclay" synthetic courts. Members and visitors now can enjoy a delicious expresso coffee and snacks at "Cafe Court-side" and relax in our lounge area. The service extends to a fully-stocked pro-shop and electronic stringing and racquet diagnostic service from our "Planet Tennis Pro-Shop".

Burwood was voted Victorian Metropolitan Club of the Year in 2002. Toptenn Tennis Academy has been offering programmes and raising the skill level of members for almost 15 years.

Competitions include many junior teams at all levels, 8 Tennis Victoria pennant teams, Waverley and District and Eastern Region teams. Club functions, presentation nights and social events orchestrated by a dedicated and hard-working committee are a feature of the club

We currently have some of the best juniors in Australia representing the Club.

Todd Woodbridge represented the club last year.

Burwood also hosts the exciting Primary Schools Super-Challenge (see picture below) annually between Ashburton Primary, Hartwell Primary, and Wattle Park Primary.

The Burwood Vets 1 Tennis Victoria pennant team is gunning for its third straight pennant. The high profile team contains Steve Wood (CEO Tennis Australia), Ian Goolagong (brother of Evonne who has played Centre Court at Wimbledon), Brenden Sharp (Australian delegate to the International Tennis Federation), Mark Sheppard (reigning World Masters doubles champion) to mention a few.
